Research - Ethics - Knowledge 2010
A course for IBCLC education and all those interested in learning about infant feeding in Melbourne and Brisbane

Do you want to…
  • Have an understanding of breast anatomy and physiology and appreciate the health implications of infant feeding decisions, both long and short term.
  • Clarify your ethical position as health professionals in line with the IBLCE Code of Ethics and the WHO Code.
  • Be able to access, critically analyse and apply the latest research evidence in the breastfeeding literature.
  • Be aware of the principles of personal counselling and learn practical techniques to support mothers through the wide range of breastfeeding experiences.
  • Be aware of and able to refer parents to community support groups for breastfeeding mothers.
  • Develop networks with other health professionals who support breastfeeding in the community.

 

Due to changes in the IBLCE application process (new applicants must now submit all evidence of CERPs with the exam application. Those recertifying with CERPs are required to submit evidence by 31 October at the latest - for full details please refer to www.iblce.edu.au) we are now offering the REK course in three four week blocks:

 

The first block will be most suitable for those who wish to update and refresh their knowledge prior to the exam:

Aug 25, Sept (1, 8, 15) and Oct (6, 13, 20, 27)
Topics include: Milk Supply, health consequences, breastmilk banking, pharmacology, WHO Code, solids, allergies and either counselling (in Melbourne) or Immunology (in Brisbane).

 

The course will run for two hours (evening) on each of the dates above in Melbourne and Brisbane. Extension reading will be provided. Attend the whole course or individual sessions.

Australian Breastfeeding Association Seminar Series – CDs now available
If you missed out on attending the seminars, the CDs (containing written presentations and notes) are now available for $10 from Mothers Direct mothersdirect.com.au

 

Breastfeeding : A Work of Heart - 2008 This travelling seminar series was held across Australia in March and April 2008. Speakers included Kathleen Kendall Tackett (author of Depression in New Mothers and The Hidden Feelings of Motherhood), Diana West (author of Making More Milk: A Nursing Mother’s Guide To Milk Supply), Barbara Wilson Clay and Kay Hoover (authors of The Breastfeeding Atlas), and Gill Rapley (author of Babyled weaning - a new approach to introducing solids).

 

Breastfeeding Support Everyone Wins - 2009 This seminar series was held in March 2009. Speakers included Dr Michael Abou Dakn, Dr Dennis Spangler, Amy Spangler, Dr Donna Geddes, Dr Nancy E Wight (author of Best Medicine: Human Milk in the NICU) and Randa Saadeh.

An Introduction to Counselling the Breastfeeding Mother Workshop
The aim of the workshop is to assist you as a health professional in developing your interactions around breastfeeding with mothers and their families.
